Illinois Reads News - 2017 Launch

posted Feb 14, 2017, 6:47 AM by Joseph Duncan

Illinois Reads News
Come one! Come all! The 2017 Illinois Reads launch is approaching. Mark your calendar for March 11, 2017 at Wilmington Middle School in Wilmington and a splendid event is being planned! The program begins at 10:00 am. We are expecting a large crowd, so come early!
We have more than two dozen authors committed to attending! We will have Anderson’s Bookstore bringing the latest Illinois Reads titles for purchase.
Some of the special features for this year’s launch include a visit from President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd. Inspired by Candice Fleming’s book, Bulldozers’s Big Day, we are planning to have a bulldozer brought to the school from our Local 150 training facility. Inspired by Mike Grosso’s book, I Am Drums, we will feature drum line performances by the Wilmington High School percussion section, special thanks to music and band instructor Mrs. Ellen Georgeff. Inspired by Andrea Beaty’s book, Ada Twist, Scientist, there will be three Rube Goldberg machine demonstrations created by our Wilmington Middle School 8th grade S.T.E.M. class and instructor Mrs. Tara Van Duyne. Their task will be to design, engineer, and perform the turning of a page of a book. Inspired by Kate Hannigan’s book, Cupcake Cousins, there will be 250 cupcakes for sale and on display in the All Purpose room. The five hand-crafted cupcake displays will be designed, constructed, and painted by the 8th grade Industrial Arts class and instructor Mr. Graham Geiss. There will be a QR code scavenger hunt, so bring your personal device.
Circle March 11th and join us at Wilmington Middle School! Let’s celebrate Illinois Reads 5th Birthday in a GRAND style!
