Superintendent’s Blog – School Resource Officer

To start the new 2019-2020 school year, Beecher 200U will once again have a full-time School Resource Officer on campus. It has been nearly a decade since we discontinued the SRO program, and we are very excited to see its return. Even though we greatly appreciate the daily attention that Chief Smith and his staff give our campus, this SRO program will allow us to protect and educate our children on a whole new level.

Traditionally, when you think of a School Resource Officer, your first thought is: school safety. And yes, that will certainly be a focus of our SRO program, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Our new SRO will be building relationships with students at all levels. In the classroom, the officer will be providing lessons on decision-making for safe and healthy lifestyles, bullying/cyber-bullying, and internet safety. The SRO will be conducting truancy home visits to help students attend on a more regular basis, be providing assistance with parking lot traffic before and after school, and so much more. This program is a clear continuation and strengthening of the mutually beneficial relationship between the Beecher P.D. and 200U.
